Geneva Watch Fair 2025: MB&F Legacy Machine 101 EVO: A Titanium Sports Watch Celebrates the Brand's 20th Anniversary

MB&F released the Legacy Machine 101 EVO to commemorate the company's 20th anniversary in 2025, presenting a sporty update to its flagship timepiece. The LM101 EVO is the fourth model in the MB&F EVO collection, following the LM Perpetual EVO (2020), LM Split Escapement EVO, and LM Sequential EVO (all 2022).

Technical Foundation and Movement Architecture
The LM101 EVO is based on the original LM101 caliber, first launched in 2014 as MB&F's first in-house movement. This manually wound movement features a three-dimensional architecture centered around a prominent 14mm flying balance wheel that floats above the dial plane. Independent watchmaker Kari Voutilainen was involved in the movement's design and finishing specifications, ensuring it meets 19th-century haute horlogerie standards. The EVO version incorporates several technical improvements over the standard LM101. Mainspring optimization has increased the power reserve from 45 hours to 60 hours. The movement operates at a frequency of 18,000 vibrations per hour (2.5Hz) and comprises 233 parts and 23 jewels. A Straumann double balance spring regulates chronometry, while a sliding mainspring barrel prevents overwinding damage.

EVO Series Upgrades
The EVO treatment transforms the LM101 into a sporty watch through specific engineering improvements. The addition of a screw-down crown increases water resistance to 80 meters. MB&F's proprietary FlexRing shock-absorbing system, installed between the case and movement, protects the delicate mechanism during active wear. The case is crafted from titanium to reduce weight and enhance durability. The case, 40 mm in diameter and 16.5 mm thick, eschews a traditional bezel, offering an unobstructed view through a domed sapphire crystal. The integrated bracelet is ergonomically designed, creating a seamless transition from the case to the wrist.

Both dial options utilize a chemical vapor deposition (CVD) coating technique. The malachite green dial creates a shifting hue of green, blue, and purple through light refraction. The salmon green dial represents a rare color option in the MB&F portfolio. Both dials are structurally integrated into the movement architecture. The dial layout features two raised subdials with a newly added circular bezel. Hours and minutes are displayed by redesigned white gold hands in the upper right subdial. The power reserve indicator, located in the lower subdial, now displays an extended 60-hour power reserve. The EVO version features a darkening treatment on the movement components, enhancing its modern, sporty aesthetic. Traditional finishing techniques include undulating Côtes de Genève patterns, hand-polished bevels, gold chatons, countersunk blued screws, and curved bridges and plates. The escape wheel has been meticulously redesigned to incorporate MB&F's recurring battle-axe motif. The double-arched structure of the suspended balance wheel is milled from a single block of metal and requires extensive hand-polishing to achieve a mirror-like finish. The EVO version features a more streamlined arched base, distinct from the standard LM101. The box-shaped sapphire crystal caseback offers a clear view of the meticulously decorated movement beneath.

The LM101 EVO is equipped with a manually wound movement comprising 233 parts and 23 jewels, offering a power reserve of 60 hours. The 40mm titanium case features FlexRing shock protection and is water-resistant to 80 meters. The 14mm balance wheel, positioned above the dial, is regulated by a double Straumann balance spring, oscillating at a frequency of 18,000 vibrations per hour. Both the salmon green and malachite green CVD dial models feature redesigned subdials and an enhanced power reserve indicator.

Each watch is available with a white or gray rubber strap secured with a titanium folding clasp. The integrated strap design eliminates traditional lug attachment points, creating a seamless transition between case and strap. Since its debut in 2014, the LM101 series has undergone numerous iterations in various precious metals and case materials. The EVO treatment addresses collectors' demand for a more rugged, sport-focused version, making it more suitable for active wear while retaining the watch's unique visual and mechanical characteristics.
